Clinical Assistant Professor of Swine Health and Production Medicine

The candidate’s primary responsibilities will focus on clinically applied teaching of swine core classes. A strong interest in teaching veterinary students is required. Guest lectures in related courses will be given as requested. Candidates may also be involved in teaching graduate student course(s). In addition to the main didactic courses, the candidate is expected to teach in 3-6 senior blocks per year and may co-develop at least one block dedicated to advanced epidemiology where students would be exposed to infectious disease study design. The candidate will be expected to develop a selective(s) as needed dependent upon the candidate’s interest and group needs. An elective will also be developed as needed.

This position will have a collaborative research component that will depend on the area of expertise of the selected candidate. The candidate is expected to interact with other food and production-animal focused faculty in the college, including the ruminant, poultry and swine groups. Opportunities exist for collaboration with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and The Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank (FARAD) which is also housed in the Department and affords collaborative opportunities in food animal species. Other Faculty disciplines of particular interest include global health, antimicrobial resistance, genomic sciences, reproductive physiology, welfare, virology, immunology, production medicine, epidemiology, public health and food safety, pharmacology, and toxicology.

The Population Health and Pathobiology faculty have ongoing collaborations and affiliations with researchers in the government, faculty in other universities, and the private sector. A robust relationship exists within the swine industry and PHP in NC including participation on the NCPB in an ex-officio capacity. Approximately 10% of the candidate’s time will be devoted to outreach activities includes organizing the quarterly NC Swine Vet Meetings and serving as a resource for NC swine veterinarians.
