How to apply for Diplomate Re-Certification

Diplomates of the College are required to undertake the re-certification at intervals of five years. During this process they will be required to show evidence of their professional activities and that they are continuing to:

  •  Practise scientific, evidence-based veterinary medicine which complies with animal welfare legislation;
  •  Publish original scientific articles in peer reviewed national and international journals;
  •  Present original work at scientific meetings.
  •  Be actively involved in the dissemination of knowledge related to Porcine Health Management through publication and presentation at continuing education meetings and courses for pig and general practitioners;
  •  Undertake continual professional development.

They must also satisfy following requirements:

  • Each Diplomate is required to attend the Annual General Meeting at least twice (2) in five (5) years.
  • Each Diplomate needs to practise the specialty of Porcine Health Management for not less than 60 per cent of the professional time with at least 24 hours per week.

Diplomates due for re-certification will receive a reminder to initiate this process. The Diplomate Re-evaluation Form needs to be completed and submitted by March 1st of the year of re-certification. The re-evaluation shall be supported by two Letters of Reference from other Diplomates.

In brief, activities from the five calendar years pre-ceding the year of re-evaluation can be reported. Exceptions are made for Diplomates having been on parental leave or longer sick leave. The re-certification will be approved only if at least 100 points are reached in total, taking into account the maximum allowable scores for different categories. Points can be collected through various activities in seven different categories. However, it is not mandatory that the scoring includes all of the categories.
